A 17 year old boy suffered from two cardiac arrests that resulted in a severe physical disability. He was stabilized during his hospitalization at CHKD, but the family was required to install a ramp at their Norfolk home in order for him to be discharged from the hospital. They were unable to afford a ramp, and it would take months for a permanent ramp to be installed through a Medicaid waiver. The River Ellis Foundation provided a temporary ramp for this family so that they could bring the boy home from the hospital and fill in the gap until a permanent ramp could be installed.
