After being diagnosed with a dangerous pregnancy complication, a Virginia Beach teacher experienced the unthinkable when she suddenly required surgery to terminate her pregnancy due to the threat against her own health.

This teacher found herself in the middle of a difficult financial situation as she was personally responsible for covering the costs of her substitute teachers while she was out of work for 6 weeks after surgery. The River Ellis Foundation helped this teacher find her sunrise by stepping in to cover the costs of the substitute teachers so that she could take time off to heal both physically and emotionally without any additional financial burden.
